Shot at during capture bid, wolf found dead
BAHRAICH, Sept. 29 -- A day after chief minister Yogi Adityanath's instruction to either capture or eliminate the wolves responsible for harming people in some villages of Bahraich district, the forest department launched an operation to capture the predator on Sunday morning, shot at and injured a wolf which managed to escape but later its carcass recovered in Rohitpurwa village.
DFO Ram Singh Yadav said the carcass has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Assistant conservator of forests (ACF) Rashid Jameel said forest patrol teams, while combing the Majhara Taukli area, received information that a wolf was sighted there. Immediately, they rushed to the spot. "When the wolf attempted to flee the trap, our shooters opened fire and injured it.
Fear continues to grip villagers as wolf attacks have claimed the lives of three children, left another missing and injured at least 16 people in recent weeks. Following CM Yogi's instructions, forest teams are conducting round-the-clock searches.
On Saturday, the CM conducted an aerial survey in Bahraich before meeting villagers affected by human-wildlife conflicts in Manjhara, Taukli, and Kaiserganj gram sabhas....
