Meerut, March 16 -- Demolition of six shops and a house belonging to the main accused in the Badaun double murder case is set to begin as the district administration intensified action following the sensational killing of two Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) officials at a compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Badaun. Authorities said the structures belonging to accused Ajay Pratap Singh, located outside Saijani village on the Baksena road, were constructed illegally on land earmarked for road widening. A team led by the Dataganj sub-divisional magistrate carried out measurements and completed necessary formalities on Saturday. Authorities expect to demolish the structures soon. Officials also suspended the licence of a ration shop operated in the name of the accused's mother, Kiran Devi. District supply officer Satish Mishra confirmed that the licence has been revoked. District magistrate Avneesh Rai said the accused's family holds more than three firearm licences and the process to cancel all of them has been initiated. The action follows the shooting deaths of deputy general manager Sudhir Gupta and deputy manager Harshit Mishra at the HPCL CBG plant in Saijani village under Dataganj area of Badaun district. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep grief over the killings and assured strict action against those responsible. Posting on social media on Saturday evening, he said the state government would ensure that the culprits are punished. To ensure a fair and transparent probe, the government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the chairmanship of the Bareilly divisional commissioner to investigate the entire incident. Late Saturday night, circle officer Dr Devendra Kumar was removed from his position and attached to police headquarters, while Rahul Pandey has been appointed as the new CO. Earlier on Friday, senior superintendent of police Brijesh Kumar Singh was also removed from his post following the incident. In response to the security lapse, the state government has also set up a police outpost at the CBG plant to strengthen security and monitoring. Former BJP MP from Aonla Dharmendra Kashyap has termed the killings extremely serious and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), raising questions about possible lapses in the security of the facility....
