Shooter with bounty of Rs.10k held in joint ops
Dehradun, July 19 -- The Special Task Force (STF) in a joint operation with the Ramnagar police arrested a wanted shooter carrying a bounty of Rs.10,000 on his head.
Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi -- a resident of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and one of the most-wanted criminals in Uttarakhand and Punjab -- is facing six in the two states, including murder, attempt to murder, and attack on police personnel. The accused had been on the run for five years.
According to the police, Gopi was involved in the sensational daylight murder of a village head, Chhote Lal, known as Chhote Pradhan, in Rudrapur in 2016. In 2017, Gopi had also opened fire on a police team in Ramnagar when they attempted to stop him.
"Though he was arrested at the time, he managed to secure bail and later fled abroad and skipped court appearances. He was later declared a fugitive," said Senior Superintendent of Police (STF) Navneet Singh Bhullar.
He said, "As a part of a state-wide campaign against absconding criminals with bounties, our team used technical surveillance and on ground intelligence to nab the accused. We on Thursday afternoon received a tip off regarding Gopi's presence in the Ramnagar area, following which we coordinated with Ramnagar police to launch a joint operation.
We cordoned off the area and successfully arrested him. He was then taken to the Ramnagar police station. We also informed the concerned police stations in both Uttarakhand and Punjab, where he is facing cases."...
