LUCKNOW, Dec. 23 -- Shaurya Singh smacked a fine half-century to help Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) enter semi-finals of the 20th All India Shaheed Major Amiy Tripathi Cricket Tournament, defeating Bodh gaya XI Bihar by 56 runs, at the Raj Malti Stadium in Fazilnagar on Monday. Shaurya struck 27-ball 75 with the help of six boundaries and seven sixes as CAL piled up 234 in 20.5 overs after being sent to bat first. Kushgra Singh (30), Sanket Maurya (30) and Priyanshu Pandey 927) also made useful contributions. Atul Prakash took 4/55 for the Bihar team. In reply, Bodh Gaya XI after losing three quick wickets for 28, could make 178 in 22.4 overs. Gautam Vijay Kumar struck the highest 57 in 62 balls with the help of four boundaries and equal number of sixes. Aditya Raj (50, 20b, 6x4, 4x6) and Atul Prakash (34, 20b, 3x4, 3x6) were the other main run getters. For CAL, skipper Hasan Akhtar along with Manish Sharma and Satyan Pandey shared six wickets between them, whereas Akarsh Srivastava, Atif and Kuldeep Chauhan took a wicket each. Lucknow's Aniruddh Kumar won the boys under-18 singles title at the 23rd Eldeco Cup Prize Money Tennis Tournament, defeating his elder brother Anuj Kumar 7-5, at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility here on Monday. In the under-16 boys' category, Rohin Raj became the champion, defeating Virat Singh 4-0. In the under-14 boys' category, Satvik Gupta won the title by defeating Krishna Singh 4-2. Around 400 pliers from all parts of the state will be seen in action in the UP State Tennis Tournament, beginning Tuesday, at the Vijayant Khand Stadium here. The tournament will see participation in under-10, open, men and women categories, states organising secretary, Samiti Kesari. Players aged 30 and above, up to 60 and above, will also be participating as the final of the event is slated for December 30. Secretary General of South Asian Handball Federation and executive director of Handball Association India, Anandeswar Pandey has been elected as a council member of Asian Handball Federation (AHF) in the Ordinary Congress held in Cairo (Egypt). Pandey is one of the five council members of AHF. Tejraj Singh, secretary general of Handball Association India, stated that Pandey happens to be the second Indian to achieve this position after Padmashri RL Anand, strengthening India's presence in AHF.
