Sharda Nagar residents stage protest over 'polluted' water
LUCKNOW, May 18 -- People in the city's Sharda Nagar blocked a road as they protested the alleged drinking water contamination and sewer blockage due to a power grid construction work in the area, on Saturday. The protest forced authorities to resolve the issue immediately.
The area comes under the Rajni Khand ward. Locals said the problem began when construction debris from the power grid work near the powerhouse choked the sewer lines.
Upon learning about the protest, officials from the Jalkal department and Lucknow Municipal Corporation rushed to the spot. Executive engineer Sachin Singh Yadav inspected the damage. "The construction agency's digging work caused debris to enter the sewer lines," said Yadav. The civic teams pumped out the drain water and also cleared sewer blockage. They also flushed the pipelines to restore clean water supply.
