Meerut, June 10 -- In a late night operation on Sunday, Shamli police arrested two suspects after a fierce exchange of gunfire on the highway under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Police Outpost in Sadar Kotwali area. The duo was wanted in connection with a Rs 32 lakh robbery that had taken place a week earlier. According to officials, the encounter occurred late at night when a police team, acting on a specific tip-off, attempted to intercept the suspects' vehicle during a checking drive. The suspects opened fire on the police, prompting retaliatory response. Both accused were injured and subsequently arrested. The arrested suspects have been identified as Mohit Singh and Gaurav alias Shubham, both residents of Vaidpura village under Chandinagar police station in Baghpat district. Police recovered Rs 10 lakh in cash, two country-made pistols, several live cartridges, and the Aadhaar card of the cashier that had been snatched during the heist. In a significant lead, police also recovered the car used in the crime. The car bore a Haryana number plate, but its registration details traced it back to Delhi. Authorities are now investigating this discrepancy, suspecting the use of fake or tampered registration to mislead law enforcement. The robbery in question took place near Barwa village on the Panipat-Khatima highway on Wednesday. The victims were Anil Kumar, a cashier employed by a Panipat-based yarn trader, and his driver Satnam. The criminals, posing as government officials and using a car marked "Government of India," intercepted them and fled with Rs 32 lakh in cash. Following the incident, Shamli police formed four dedicated teams under the supervision of the superintendent of police, led by the additional SP Santosh Kumar Singh. Continuous raids and surveillance were carried out to track the culprits. While two suspects have now been held, four other accomplices remain at large. Police teams are actively pursuing leads to locate and arrest the remaining accused. Shamli SP Ram Sevak Gautam stated that the entire gang involved in the heist would soon be behind bars. "We are close to solving the case completely. The absconding accused will be arrested shortly, and justice will be delivered," he stated....
