Ahmedabad, Sept. 23 -- Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides and adopt organic farming, saying the government is taking steps to ensure higher returns for those following sustainable practices. He highlighted that GST on agricultural equipment and related items has been reduced, effective Monday, the first day of Navratri, providing a significant benefit to farmers. Speaking in Rajkot after attending the annual meeting of seven local cooperative organisations, Shah said India aims to expand its share in the global organic products market and called on Saurashtra farmers to embrace organic methods. He added that the government is working to ensure farmers practising organic farming earn greater profits. "I am here today to urge all Saurashtra farmers to reduce their dependence on chemical pesticides and fertilizers and embrace organic farming instead. India is positioned to secure a major share of the worldwide organic products market, bringing these valuable opportunities directly to our farmers. The government is putting robust systems in place to ensure that those who adopt organic farming practices will see greater returns on their investments," he said....
