LUCKNOW, Oct. 23 -- A lawyer was allegedly shot at following a dispute over bursting firecrackers in Thakurganj late Sunday evening, while several others were injured in separate incidents reported from PGI, Hussainganj, Gomti Nagar, and Banthra areas, keeping police on their toes till Monday night. According to officials, a father-son duo was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly opening fire on a lawyer over a firecracker dispute in Thakurganj's Ekta Nagar locality. The accused were identified as Amar Singh and his son Vikas Singh. Officials said the victim, Deependra Kumar Singh, was shot in the head and is battling for his life at KGMU Trauma Centre. The altercation began when Deependra requested his neighbours to burst firecrackers away from his house. As the situation escalated, Amar Singh allegedly asked his son to open fire. Deependra's brother, Surendra Singh Chauhan, told police that the bullet grazed past Deependra's head, causing him to collapse while bleeding profusely. Thakurganj police inspector confirmed that the accused had been arrested. A minor altercation over kite flying turned violent in Hussainganj area when four youths allegedly barged into a teenager's house and assaulted him and his family members. The incident occurred around 5 pm when 14-year-old Vansh Sharma was flying kites from his terrace. According to his elder brother Harsh Sharma, a group of boys from a nearby rooftop repeatedly cut Vansh's kite, leading to an argument. Soon after, the accused -- Maruf, Hanzla, Sameer alias Unnu, and Junaid, along with others -- allegedly entered Vansh's house, and abused and assaulted him and his family. A meat trader was attacked with a knife following a heated argument over firecrackers in Banthra on Monday night. Mannan, a resident of Banthra Bazaar, told police that around 8:30 pm on Monday, neighbour Arjun threw a firecracker towards him. When he objected, Arjun began abusing him. Arjun and his friends Suraj, Manoj, Raj, and another youth allegedly attacked Mannan and his family. Mannan's uncle, a local meat trader, was stabbed in the abdomen and right hand. "They even pelted our house with stones and tried to break in," said Arif, Mannan's brother, who was also injured. The victims were taken to a nearby private hospital. Gautampalli police arrested four youths after a fight erupted over fireworks at the riverfront behind Chatori Gali on Monday evening. Upon being alerted, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police registered a case under sections 170, 126, and 135 of the BNS. Joint commissioner of police (law and order) Babloo Kumar said strict instructions had been issued to all station officers to maintain law and order and ensure swift arrests in each case. A long-standing dispute over a village road between two families in Revtapur village, under PGI police station limits, erupted into violence on Diwali evening, leaving one man critically injured. According to police, Sonu Yadav (26) was shot in the stomach when members of the rival family allegedly opened fire around 5 pm during a heated confrontation.
