Several city areaswitness power cuts
Lucknow, July 28 -- Power outages led to protests in several areas of the state capital on Saturday night. Rain and strong winds were among the causes of disruption in supply.
Residents of pockets in Jalalpur, Rahimabad, Sarojininagar and Chowk demand swift restoration of electricity amid reports that areas were without power for several hours.
Electricity to Ashok Vihar, Shukla Vihar and Para village was cut off from 5 pm onward Saturday when a tree collapsed on a high-voltage (11,000-volt) line.
Claiming that they got no response from power officials despite repeated calls, residents staged a demonstration near the substation, blocking roads and demanding immediate action.
"People kept calling JE and SDO, but no one picked up. Later, even the official numbers were switched off," said a protester.
The supply was restored only after midnight.
In Chowk's Katra Mohammad Ali, residents confronted power department employees who had come to collect dues. The situation led to police intervention, allowing the department to disconnect the defaulter's supply.
Meanwhile, in Sarojininagar's Amausi, Ganganagar, and Hanumanpuri, power outage was reported at 9 pm and supply was restored after 2.30 a.m.
The 11 kV Mount Merry feeder emanating from the Nirala Nagar 33/11 kV substation tripped due to a metal-coated kite string getting entangled with the power line on Sunday. The incident led to a five-hour outage.
"This isn't the first time we've seen kite threads damaging high-tension lines, especially during the monsoon," said a senior power department official. The feeder was eventually restored after hours of manual inspection and clearing.
The 11 kV Kakuli feeder from Dawood Nagar substation remained out of service for nearly five hours before restoration.
The 11 kV XLPE feeder from Nirala Nagar substation also saw a breakdown. The issue was resolved after nearly four hours.
At Vikas Nagar, a line of the 33 kV Khurram Nagar-2 feeder went down under the load of increased demand and was restored after four hours.
Officials of LESA said that the gangs to repair the faults are still working in the field, adding that the supply has been restored across almost all affected feeders.
In Rahimabad, villages such as Laluhar, Zindaur, and Garhi also faced outages starting at 5 p.m. Friday, which were resolved by 3 am on Saturday. A tree branch reportedly caused a short circuit.
Supply from the Fattekhera and Kanakha feeders was disrupted for over six hours during the day....
