Seven more Maoists killed in encounter in Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad, Nov. 20 -- A day after the killing of wanted CPI (Maoist) commander and central committee member Madvi Hidma and five other members in an encounter in the Maredumilli forests of Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitarama Raju district, the security forces gunned down seven more Maoists in the area on Wednesday morning, police said.
Unconfirmed reports said CPI (Maoist) central committee member Thippiri Tirupati alias Devji, who took over as the general secretary of the outfit after the death of Namballa Kesava Rao in May, was among the Maoists killed on Wednesday.
Additional director general of police (Intelligence) Mahesh Chandra Laddha said, "We got the information about the killing of seven Maoists in an exchange of fire with the police forces, who were continuing the combing operations in the Maredumilli area after the encounter killing of Hidma," he said.
Laddha, however, did not confirm whether Devji was among the killed. "We are yet to receive the full details of the exchange of fire from the ground. We are still compiling the information," he said, and added that security forces were maintaining tight surveillance in the border forest zones. P6...
