Kanpur, Sept. 28 -- Police detained seven suspected Bangladeshi nationals from the Sheikhpura locality in Kannauj on Saturday. The operation was part of a continuing crackdown on illegal immigration and followed the detention of 40 suspected Bangladeshi nationals in Kannauj and Kanpur by Delhi Police's crime branch on September 23. According to officials, the police conducted an early morning raid in Sheikhpura, where the seven individuals were picked up on suspicion of being undocumented immigrants. These individuals had reportedly been living in the area for over 15 years in makeshift shelters constructed on vacant land. The seven detainees were taken into custody. Their long-term presence in the locality had previously gone unnoticed. SP Kannauj Vinod Kukar said, "The identity of these individuals is currently under verification. Only after detailed examination can it be confirmed if they are Bangladeshi nationals."...
