Seven held for alleged attack on Kanwariyas
PRAYAGRAJ, July 20 -- Police on Saturday arrested seven people who were allegedly involved in a clash that broke out between Kanwariyas and members of another community in Sarai Khwaja village under the Mauaima police station area, following a dispute over DJ music being played during Friday prayers.
The incident occurred when a group of Kanwariyas, including Ramkrishna Saroj, Purushottam Singh and Rajendra Jaiswal, were on their way to Prayagraj to collect Ganga Jal. They were reportedly dancing and playing DJ music near the village mosque when they were allegedly attacked with sticks and sharp-edged weapons by some individuals from another community.
On receiving information, assistant commissioner of police (ACP) (Phulpur) Pankaj Lavania and station house officer (SHO) Pankaj Awasthi reached the spot with police personnel and brought the situation under control.
Police first registered a case based on a complaint by Mahendra Kumar Saroj. A second complaint was filed later, leading to an FIR against around 40 people allegedly involved in the violence, including 13 named accused. The seven arrested on Saturday were identified as Belal alias Babbu, Tufail Ahmed, Mohammad Tasleem, Mohammad Arif, Shabeer, Alam, and Ahmed Ali alias Guddu.
In light of the tensions, additional police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the village.
Police said several named accused have fled, and search operations are underway to trace them....
