LUCKNOW, June 11 -- Ashish Gupta, a senior IPS officer from the 1989 regular recruit batch, was given a formal farewell at the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters on Tuesday, following his voluntary retirement nearly 19 months ahead of his superannuation scheduled for December 2026. He had been serving as director general of rules and manuals wing, considered to be a punishment posting, for the past several months. He applied for voluntary retirement in May and the request was approved by the state government recently. The new acting director general of police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna, presented a memento to Gupta during the farewell ceremony and appreciated his contributions during his service. Gupta expressed gratitude to the police family, his batchmates, juniors, and family members. He served in various capacities, including superintendent of police in several districts, inspector general (IG) of Special Task Force, and ADG/IG, Railway. He also served on central deputation for over 18 years, working in various roles, including at the UN Mission in Kosovo, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, and as director in the Prime Minister's Office. He was awarded the Police Medal in 2006 and the President's Police Medal in 2014.
