VARANASI, Nov. 29 -- Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' has asked Mirzapur district administrative officials to send a proposal for changing the name of Mirzapur to Vindhya Dham Nagar. Nandi, who is also minister in-charge Mirzapur, gave instructions after local public representatives raised the demand before him during a meeting. Discussions about changing Mirzapur's name have begun since the minister's directive. A proposal to rename Mirzapur was presented to minister Nandi during a meeting of the district administrative coordination and core committee in Mirzapur on Thursday. Public representatives, who attended the meeting, discussed various issues, including renaming of Mirzapur. Meanwhile, municipal council chairman Shyam Sundar Keshari presented a proposal to change the name of Mirzapur, demanding that the process should be started for the same. The public representatives, including Mirzapur Sadar MLA Ratnakar Mishra, present at the meeting also supported the proposal to change the name of the district.
