Seminar, lecture, prayers mark Buddha Purnima
Lucknow, May 13 -- Several programmes were organised to celebrate Buddha Purnima here on Monday.
At a congregation by Mahabodhi Society of India at Risaldar Park, an idol of Lord Buddha, depicting his birth, was bathed with water and milk. It was followed by recitation of 'sutras' and a talk on the life of Buddha by Bhante Ghyanlok Thero. Among those present were Society president Mahendra Singh and members Harendra Kumar, RK Sachan, Usha Bodh, Mahesh Prasad Satyarthi and Chandra Bhushan Verma.
Buddhist Darshan Vidhyashakha and Pali Studies and Research Centre of Central Sanskrit University's Lucknow campus held 'Trividhapavani Buddha-Purnima' in which a Vipassana meditation group recited Dhammapada and Ratnavali.
Director Prof. Sarv Narayan Jha saidPali Study and Research Center would be developed in terms of Pali teaching-training, history writing, multilingual Pali dictionary creation and computational linguistics tools creation.
"Graduation and post-graduation courses in Pali will be started by the university. Buddhist philosophies is one of the subjects offered by the Lucknow campus. All subjects are being taught as per the new education policy," he said.
At Dr. Shankuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, vice-chancellor Prof. Sanjay Singh paid floral tributes to the statue of Lord Buddha. "It is better to win over ourselves than to win thousands of battles in life... By adopting kindness and compassion, we can all make our lives meaningful through the energy within us," he said.
At Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, a national seminar on 'Buddhism and Indian Civilisation' was inaugurated. The programme was presided over by vice-chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal....
