Search ops intensify after two swept away by River
Mussoorie, Nov. 7 -- Rescue teams have intensified search operations after two people were swept away by the Alaknanda River near Kirtinagar in Dehradun district on Tuesday, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred at Dhundprayag Ghat, where a group of villagers had gathered to perform a religious ritual. The victims, a man and a woman, went missing after being caught in the river's strong current while taking a dip following the pooja. "During the bath, Asha Devi (40), wife of Gajpal Singh Gusain, slipped into the deep current of the fast-flowing river. Seeing her drowning, Jaswant Singh (54) jumped in to rescue her, but both were swept away by the strong current," Arya said. Vinit Kumar, media spokesperson of the SDRF , said that an extensive search operation was launched soon after the incident but no trace of the missing people had been found till Thursday evening....
