VARANASI, July 13 -- All schools from nursery to Class 12 in the city, and those along the Kanwar Yatra route in the district will open on Sunday and will remain closed on Monday instead, in view of the huge crowd of devotees visiting Varanasi on the first Monday of Sawan, said district inspector of schools/basic education officer, Bholendra Pratap Singh. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the convenience of Shiva devotees and children, the official said. According to the direction of the district magistrate, instructions have been given to school authorities to open schools on Sunday and keep them closed on Monday. All schools in the city area will come under this order. There are 99 primary and upper primary schools and about 25 secondary schools along these routes. About 2 km area around Kashi Vishwanath Temple from Maidagin to Godaulia has been declared a no-vehicle zone during Savan. Eighteen golf carts and electric rickshaws will be available here free of cost but wheelchairs will cost money....
