School teacher killed, 3 injured as car hits rickshaw
PRAYAGRAJ, April 6 -- A schoolteacher was killed and three others were injured on Sunday afternoon after a speeding car hit an auto-rickshaw at Dhakwa under Asapur Devsara police station limits in Pratapgarh, along the Lucknow-Varanasi Highway. The victims included a woman, her 10-year-old grandson, and the auto-rickshaw driver.
The deceased has been identified as Kiran Singh, a private school teacher and resident of Om Nagar in Asapur Devsara. Another passenger, Meera Mishra, was also travelling in the auto along with her 10-year-old grandson.
The accident occurred when the auto-rickshaw reached the Purwa Dhakwa turning on the four-lane stretch under the Dhakwa Nagar Panchayat area. A car coming from the Sultanpur side allegedly rammed into the auto-rickshaw at high speed, causing serious injuries to all occupants, including the driver.
A joint team of Sarai Akil police in Kaushambi and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested a snatching accused, Amit Pasi, after an encounter on Saturday night. The accused was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing and was later sent to jail after medical treatment. His accomplice had already been arrested earlier in the case.
The case is linked to two mangalsutra-snatching incidents reported earlier. Pooja Agrahari, a resident of Jhalwa in Prayagraj, reported that on March 9, two youths on a motorcycle snatched her mangalsutra while she was travelling in an auto-rickshaw near Jaraini in the Sarai Akil area of Kaushambi. In another case, Manoj Kumar from Sitapur, Sarai Akil, said his cousin, Gudiya Devi, was robbed of her mangalsutra in a similar manner near Laxmanpur Tiraha in Karari on March 13 while returning home after attending a wedding.
Police had registered cases against unknown persons in both incidents. During the investigation, the names of Mohd Saif alias Bante and Amit Pasi came to light. Mohd Saif was arrested earlier, while Amit Pasi was caught during the encounter.
An unidentified attacker attempted to murder a 70-year-old man by slitting his throat while he slept in a shed outside his home in Kalyangarh Barna village under Hathigawan police station limits in Kaushambi on Saturday night. The victim, Jagdev Patel, was attacked around 2.15am. He was first taken to a private hospital where doctors referred him to Prayagraj, where his condition remains critical.
Following a written complaint by the victim's wife, police registered an attempted murder case against an unknown person. Police say efforts are underway to identify and arrest the accused.
A 29-year-old woman was brutally beaten to death by her husband in Bichhiya Khurd village under Sadar Kotwali police station in Chandauli district over a dispute, police said on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Soni Kharwar, who had married Gautam Kharwar, 34, in 2020.
The accused husband stuffed the body into a sack, loaded it on a four wheeler and dumped it near Jalebiya Mor in the Chandraprabha forest. Circle officer Devendra Kummar said that kin of the woman lodged a complaint, after which Gautam was taken into custody for his suspected role in murder. Upon rigorous interrogation, the accused confessed to his crime and revealed that he had murdered his wife using an iron rod over a domestic dispute. Based on the written complaint filed by the deceased's family, the police have registered a case against the accused, and further legal proceedings are underway....
