Lucknow, May 21 -- Scholarships will be made semester-based in the future, replacing the current annual system, and if a student's scholarship is stopped due to technical reasons, they will be given an opportunity to resolve the issue and will not be deprived of the benefit, an official said. Besides, face recognition-based attendance will be implemented to prevent misuse of scholarships by fake students. A modern, technology-based portal will be developed, which will include features like mobile app notifications, the official added during a discussion that was held with ministers of various departments at Bhaagidari Bhawan in Gomtinagar on Tuesday to explore ways to make scholarships more accessible and efficient. A few months ago, the social welfare department was designated as the nodal department for all scholarship and fee reimbursement schemes, according to a government spokesperson. The social welfare department had constituted a six-member team for scholarship transformation, which presented its findings during the meeting. Minority welfare minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, minister of state for backward classes welfare (independent charge) Narendra Kashyap, minister of state for social welfare (independent charge) Asim Arun, and minister of state for minority welfare Danish Azad, along with principal secretaries and directors of all three departments, were present. In the presentation, minister Asim Arun highlighted the difficulties faced by students and departments in obtaining scholarships. He then discussed with the ministers and officials possible solutions to these problems. It was decided that the scholarship portal should remain open year-round. All ministers agreed to form a joint team of directors from the three departments to work together on resolving the existing challenges. A uniform policy process will be created for all categories.
