PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 8 -- The Jhunsi-based Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute (GBPSSI) has expelled a senior research scholar from its hostel and barred his entry into the campus after he was found guilty of ragging and assaulting a junior scholar. The action followed an internal inquiry and approval from the institute's Anti-Ragging Cell, officials said. Both scholars were roommates. The junior had alleged that the senior frequently assaulted him and that on November 4 he was attacked again. He then informed the police control room, after which police and institute authorities intervened. The senior scholar was suspended the same day, and the victim later filed a complaint on the central anti-ragging portal. A detailed investigation by the Anti-Ragging Cell confirmed the senior scholar's involvement. Based on its report submitted on November 6, the institute ordered his permanent expulsion from the hostel and banned him from entering the campus. Institute spokesperson Subhash Kumar stated that although the senior researcher is only two months away from completing his PhD, the expulsion order will remain in effect.
