Lucknow, Nov. 12 -- Energy minister AK Sharma on Tuesday announced the 'Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025', a major relief scheme for power consumers offering substantial waivers on pending electricity dues. The scheme aims to ease consumer burden and strengthen the financial condition of state power utilities. Under the plan, consumers making lump-sum payments will get a 100% surcharge waiver and up to 25% rebate on the principal amount. The rebate will be offered in three phases- 25% for registrations between December 1-31, 2025, 20% between January 1-31, 2026, and 15% between February 1-28, 2026. "The scheme covers domestic consumers up to 2 kW and commercial users up to 1 kW. Those involved in power theft cases can also seek relief by registering and depositing Rs 2,000 or 10% of the assessed amount, whichever is higher, Sharma said. For consumers unable to pay at once, the government has allowed monthly installment payments, providing relief to poor and middle-class households. Sharma said the scheme reflected the government's "transparent, sensitive and pro-people approach," ensuring that no consumer remains burdened by unpaid bills. Consumers can register easily at www.uppcl.org, local power offices, Jan Seva Kendras, or departmental counters....
