nEW dELHI, Sept. 27 -- The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on Salman Rushdie's novel "The Satanic Verses." A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed that the petition was essentially challenging the Delhi high court's order from November 2024, which had lifted the long-standing ban on the book after government authorities failed to produce the original notification from 1988 that had prohibited its import.
