New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The Supreme Court on Monday extended the stay on criminal defamation proceedings against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for a period of four weeks in a case relating to his 2022 comments on the army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. A bench of justices MM Sundresh and Vipul M Pancholi adjourned the matter to the week commencing November 20 on a request made by Gandhi's lawyer seeking time to file his response to an affidavit filed by the Uttar Pradesh government. The top court had on August 4 stayed the defamation proceedings pending against Gandhi before a Lucknow court on a complaint filed by Uday Shankar Srivastava. The complainant had objected to the remarks made by the Congress MP who alleged that the Chinese army "captured 2,000 sq km of Indian territory" and "thrashed our jawans in Arunachal Pradesh"....
