New Delhi, July 30 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday came down hard upon a litigant and his lawyers for making scurrilous allegations against a sitting high court judge deciding a case against Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy and issued contempt notices to them. The court was dealing with a petition filed by N Peddi Raju who had filed a complaint under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 against Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy and others. He filed a transfer petition seeking transfer of the case outside Telangana making scurrilous allegations against justice Moushmi Bhattacharya hearing the matter. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai took strong objection to statements made against the judge and issued contempt notices to Raju, advocate Ritesh Patil who filed the case in the top court, and another lawyer arguing the matter. "We cannot permit judges to be out in a box and allow any litigant to make such allegations against a judge," the court said, directing the three persons to remain personally present on the next date of hearing.
