Thumba, Jan. 14 -- Kerala's Jalaj Saxena spun a web around Punjab batsmen here on Monday as they failed to chase a 146-run target and stumbled to a 21-run loss in a Ranji Trophy match.

Courtesy the all-rounder's 7/51 in the second innings, Kerala notched their maiden win this season. Kerala started the third day at 88/5, having taken a nine-run lead on Day 2, with Mohammed Azharuddeen and Salman Nizar at the crease.

The two could add only few runs before the former was bowled by Siddharth Kaul. The pacer packed Kerala's tail-enders quickly to dismiss the hosts for 136.

With a target of 146 and experienced batsmen like Gurkeerat Singh and Mandeep Singh in their ranks, Punjab was supposed to have it easy. But Saxena put paid to their hopes...
