Lucknow, Aug. 9 -- No drain in Ayodhya will discharge into the Saryu without treatment once the 33 million litres per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant (STP) becomes fully operational. Of the 15 drains (nullahs) in the temple town, eight have already been connected to the STP, and work is underway to link the remaining seven to the sewage pipeline. The STP, located in the Majha Jamthara area, is designed to treat around 24-25 MLD of sewage currently being discharged daily in Ayodhya. The remaining drains will be connected by the end of August. The plant, based on SBR technology, meets current needs (24-25 MLD) and is planned for future demand (33 MLD over 15 years). The final sluice gate valve will be installed once floodwater recedes. A proposal to raise the contact road by 400 mm is under review.
