Sariska tigress gives birth to 4 cubs; reserve count rises to 46
Alwar, June 3 -- A tigress in the Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan, has given birth to four healthy cubs, taking the total number of tigers in the reserve to 46, officials have said.
"Good News from Sariska Tiger Reserve!! Tigress ST-19 has been sighted with 4 healthy cubs. She is the third tigress in Sariska to give birth to four cubs in a year - a promising sign for tiger conservation in the region," Rajasthan forest, environment and climate change minister of state Sanjay Sharma said on X.
This is the third known instance of a tigress in Sariska giving birth to four cubs in a single year. Tigresses ST-12 and ST-22 also gave birth to four cubs each in March and May last year, respectively, officials said. A forest official said the cubs were seen through camera traps and patrolling.
"The cubs appear to be healthy and are adapting well to the natural habitat," the official said on condition of anonymity. "The area has been restricted to minimize human interference and ensure the safety of the tigress and her cubs," the official added....
