LUCKNOW, June 12 -- Samples of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients who test positive for Covid-19 with a CT value less than 25 will be sent for genome sequencing, according to an advisory issued by the principal secretary, medical health, Uttar Pradesh. Hospital authorities across the state have been directed to test all SARI patients and 5% of patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) for Covid-19. As per the directive, samples of SARI patients with a CT value less than 25 should be sent to the microbiology department at King George's Medical University (KGMU) for genome sequencing. Covid-related data must be uploaded to the unified portal, and positive cases should be tracked at the district level, the advisory further states. The directive has been issued to all chief medical officers, heads of medical institutions, and additional directors in the health department. On Wednesday, eight people, including a resident doctor and a third-year MBBS student at KGMU, tested positive for Covid, taking the total number of cases in the latest spell to 23. The number of active cases in the state capital at present is 17, while six patients have recovered, Raghuwanshi said.
