Sangma assures speedy trial in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case
Patna, June 11 -- Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said the state government would ensure that the trial of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case is conducted expeditiously, promising swift justice for the 29-year-old Indore businessman killed during his honeymoon in the state.
"Yes, we would like the judicial process to be completed as swiftly as possible. Whatever steps are required to facilitate this from our side as a government, we will do that and try to ensure that the trial progresses quickly," Sangma said.
Raja's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, allegedly orchestrated his murder just days after their wedding on May 11, police officers aware of the matter said.
Sonam, 25, who was arrested in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday for allegedly murdering her husband on their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was taken to Shillong via Guwahati on Tuesday.
People aware of the matter said a five-member Meghalaya Police team was taking Raghuvanshi on a SpiceJet flight to Guwahati. They arrived in Patna from Ghazipur, where a court granted the Meghalaya Police her transit remand late on Monday to take her to Shillong for further probe.
The people cited above said she asked for food there and told a woman inspector she did not remember anything when asked about the murder.
A decomposed body of Raja, 29, was recovered from a gorge a week after the couple went missing from a homestay in Meghalaya. Police said Sonam allegedly conspired with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, and hired three men to kill her husband during their honeymoon....
