Meerut, June 12 -- The Saharanpur district court sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the cold-blooded murder of a young man in 2017. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on each convict. The end of the murder case trial came after eight long years, bringing partial closure for the victim's family. The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by additional district and sessions judge (Court No. 11) Alok Sharma, who found Somveer alias Sohanveer, Ankush, and Ankit guilty of murder based on eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence. Another accused, Praveen, was acquitted due to lack of conclusive evidence, while a fifth accused, Praveen alias Kala, died during the trial on August 20, 2017. According to additional district government counsel (ADGC) Amit Tyagi, the case dates back to May 14, 2017, when Sachin Arya, a resident of Salhapur village under Nakur police station, filed a complaint with the local police. In his statement, he alleged that his cousin Saurabh was on his way to Nakur on a motorcycle when he was intercepted and attacked. The FIR mentioned that the accused - Somveer alias Sohanveer, Praveen, Ankush, Ankit, and Praveen alias Kala - deliberately rammed into Saurabh's bike, causing him to fall. They then pulled him down using a cloth around his neck and shot him in the chest with a country-made firearm. After the attack, the assailants, who had come on a motorcycle and in a car, fled the scene. Upon hearing about the shooting, Sachin rushed to the spot with his younger brother Vivek and rushed the injured Saurabh to the district hospital. On the way, Saurabh, while struggling to breathe, named his attackers, clearly identifying all five. However, he succumbed to his injuries en route, and doctors declared him dead at the hospital. Following the registration of the case, police arrested the suspects and filed a chargesheet in court. The trial went on for several years, during which testimonies from witnesses and documentary evidence played a key role. After careful examination, judge Alok Sharma found Somveer alias Sohanveer, Ankush, and Ankit guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Each of them was also fined Rs.1 lakh. The court gave the benefit of doubt to Praveen and acquitted him, while the trial against Praveen alias Kala was abated following his death, ADGC said....
