Saanvi bags two medals in state badminton
LUCKNOW, Nov. 8 -- Lucknow's Saanvi Kumar bagged two medals, including a gold, in the UP State Mini Under-11 State Badminton Championship at Saharanpur.
A trainee of Abhishek Kumar at the Dalibagh Club Badminton Academy and a student of St. Francis School in Gomti Nagar, Saanvi began with the girls singles title, defeating Megha Singh 21-19, 22-24, 21-19 and then claimed the girls doubles title. While pairing with Kimaya Singh, spirited Saanvi went down fighting to the duo of Aabhya Dixit and Anvi Pradhan 13-21, 6-21.
Shresth Kumar won the boys singles title in the category, brushing aside Onis Khandelwal 18-21, 25-23 and 21-9. The boys doubles title went to the pair of Arnav Solanki and Vedant Vihan, who defeated the duo of Tejas Srivastava and Yatharth Rao Gautam 21-15, 16-21, 21-17.
JL Sharma XI on Friday notched up a convincing 9-2 win over Ravinder Pal XI to log on full points in the 2nd Vijay Mitra Dwivedi (Chakai Daada) Memorial Sub-Junior Hockey Tournament, at the Chandra Bhan Gupt Khel Maiden here. In the second match of the day, Bula Ganguli XI defeated KD singh Babu XI 4-2.
Lucknow's Yashasvi Singh, Ananya Srivastava, Chand Babu, and Shubham maintained the hosts' dominance on the second day of the 41st Sub-Junior, 9th Cadet, and 42nd Senior UP State Taekwondo Championship here on Friday.
On Friday, Lucknow exponents won four gold, four silver, and six bronze medals to lead the tally with 10 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze medals. Others like Sarita Sharma of Kanpur Nagar, Saima of Baghpat, Utsav Dubey of Kaushambi, Ayush Kumar of Gorakhpur, Ayan of Prayagraj, and Vishakha of Mathura also won gold medals.
Young thrower Vishal Patel won a golden double in the 53rd annual athletics meet of Shri Jai Narayan Mishra College here on Friday. Vishal first won gold in javelin with a throw of 44.92 metres, pushing Akshat Mani and Sunit Kumar to the second and third spots, respectively. He also won shot put gold. Akshat Mani and Lakshmi Singh stood second and third.
Tiya Kumar won shot put gold in women's category. She was followed by Zayna and Swati Gupta. But in javelin, it was Shivkali, who hogged the limelight with gold. Kusumlata and Sonal Kashyap bagged silver and bronze medals, respectively. Earlier, Avantika Yadav won discus throw gold. Ragini Kumar and Kusum Lata stood second and third, respectively....
