S.I.T arrests TDB official in probe into Sabarimala gold theft case
Kochi, Oct. 24 -- The special investigative team (SIT) probing the alleged misappropriation of gold from the Sabarimala temple has arrested a top Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) official in connection with the case, police said on Thursday.
B Murari Babu, a former TDB administrative officer at Sabarimala, was arrested from his home in Perunna area of Kottayam district late on Wednesday and questioned at the Kerala Police Crime Branch office in Thiruvananthapuram.
"He was produced before the court in Ranni after completing the necessary medical examination formalities. The court has sent him to judicial remand," an officer aware of the detail said on anonymity.
Babu is an accused in the alleged theft of gold from the 'dwarapalaka' sculptures and the side frames of the sanctum sanctorum at the Sabarimala temple. The accused, who was serving as the deputy Devaswom Commissioner in Haripad, was placed under suspension by the TDB council on October 7.
So far, the SIT has arrested two people in connection with the case. Last week, Unnikrishnan Potty, a priest-turned-businessman, was arrested....
