S-I held for bribe in Pratapgarh, sent to jail
Prayagraj, July 24 -- A Sub-Inspector (S-I) posted at Maheshganj police station in Pratapgarh has been arrested and sent to jail for taking a bribe and failing to remove an accused person's name from a case.
The matter came to light after Dharmendra Kumar Pushpakar filed a complaint with SP Pratapgarh, Anil Kumar, on July 21.
He alleged that SI Jitendra Singh took Rs.5,000 as part of a Rs.20,000 demand to remove his name from an assault case filed by Heeralal Jaiwal on May 24. However, the SI still included Dharmendra's name in the charge sheet.
Dharmendra provided audio and video proof of the bribe. Following a probe by CO (Sadar) Karishma Gupta, the charges were confirmed.
A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and Jitendra Singh was arrested by SHO Mukesh Singh.
He was produced before the special court in Gorakhpur and sent to jail. Additional SP (West) Sanjay Rai confirmed that the SI had accepted money to alter the case. He said legal action is being taken....
