Rudra guides UP score big win
LUCKNOW, Dec. 15 -- Young Rudra Sharma took six wickets to help former champions Uttar Pradesh notch up an innings and 113 runs victory over Chandigarh on the final day of their Elite Group A encounter of the Vijay Merchant Trophy, at the KSCA 2 Ground in Shimoga on Sunday.
With this win, Uttar Pradesh topped the Elite Group A with 14 points. After scoring 152 runs in the first innings, Chandigarh needed 235 runs in the second innings to overcome Uttar Pradesh's first innings total of 386/8. But they found Uttar Pradesh bowlers too tough to handle and collapsed for just 121 in 35 overs.
Rudra Sharma led from the front and bagged 6/37, whereas Dars Yadav bagged 2/17. Prithviraj Singh and Krishna Yadav shared two wickets between them. Ishant Rawat top scored 77 in 96 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and a six. Shubham Bhardwaj (20) was the other batter, who could touch the double-figure mark.
Rudra had just one wicket in the first innings, and Krishna Yadav (4/14), Prithviraj Singh (2/19) and Ritaz Malik (2/30) did most of the damage in the first innings of Chandigarh. For Uttar Pradesh, Arush Gupta struck 253-ball 157 with the help of 19 boundaries and two sixes, whereas Ayansh Sahu (80), Anay awasthi (50), Hitesh Kumar (33) and Aalok Kumar (30) were the main run getters in the first innings.
Now, Uttar Pradesh take on Vidarbha in their next match, scheduled to be played from December 18 to 20 also at Shimoga....
