Hyderabad, April 23 -- Road Transport Corporation (RTC) services across Telangana faced disruption as employees began a strike on Wednesday to press for 32 demands, including merger of RTC with the government. RTC buses were confined to the depots, forcing passengers to rely on private transport, and the corporation tried to mobilise private buses and electric buses to cater to the demands of the public. Noting that 650,000 people use the RTC buses everyday, state transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged the employees to call off their strike. Taking to X, the minister said the government wasn't opposed to 29 of the 32 demands raised by the employees, adding that technical issues with regard to the demand of RTC's merger with government and elections to the recognised unions of the corporation needed to be sorted out. Officials had sought four weeks to submit a report to the government on the demands of the employees after which the government would respond, a JAC leader said, adding that they felt the committee was set up to defer the strike. pti...
