PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 8 -- The Prayagraj railway division of North Central Railway (NCR) has taken strict action against ticketless travel, irregular tickets, unbooked luggage, and littering, penalizing a total of 7.96 lakh passengers and collecting Rs.54.67 crore in fines from April to November 2025, officials said. Of these, 3,78,154 passengers traveling without tickets were fined Rs.32.73 crore, 3,96,133 passengers traveling on irregular tickets were fined Rs.21.61 crore, and 22,566 passengers carrying unbooked luggage or littering were fined Rs.33.14 lakh, they added. In November alone, 1.19 lakh passengers were penalized, resulting in fines of Rs.8.18 crore, including 53,639 ticketless travelers fined Rs.4.70 crore, 63,149 irregular ticket holders fined Rs.3.44 crore, and 2,684 cases of unbooked luggage or littering fined Rs.4.40 lakh. The enforcement campaign, led by DRM Rajneesh Agrawal and SDCM (Coaching) Harimohan, aimed to ensure safe, comfortable, and hassle-free journeys for passengers. Alongside penalties, the division has also been actively creating awareness among travelers about proper travel practices through posters, stickers, and announcements at stations, encouraging all passengers to travel only with valid railway tickets, said officials. Confirming the actions, Amit Kumar Singh, PRO of North Central Railway's Prayagraj Division, said, "Ticketless travel or traveling on irregular tickets is a punishable offense under Indian Railway regulations. Passengers may face fines, imprisonment, or both. We appeal to all travelers to carry valid tickets to avoid inconvenience and ensure a smooth and respectful journey."...
