PRAYAGRAJ, June 30 -- Authorities in Sangam City have begun taking stringent action against negligence in school transportation. To ensure student safety, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced that vehicle owners failing to comply with school transport safety guidelines will face heavy penalties. Any school vehicle found operating without proper safety measures may be seized, and owners could be fined up to Rs 50,000, officials warned. According to ARTO (administration) Rajeev Chaturvedi, clear instructions have been issued to school managements and vehicle owners. He stated that any vehicle found operating without a valid fitness certificate or the necessary safety documents could attract a fine of up to Rs.50,000. To enforce these rules, RTO teams are actively conducting checks during school hours, and immediate action is being taken against violators. ARTO (enforcement) Rajeev Kumar detailed specific penalties for various violations: Rs 5,000 for not having a valid driving license; Rs 10,000 each for missing an insurance certificate, pollution control certificate, or permit; Rs 10,000 for the absence of proper reflectors and Rs 100 for not carrying a first aid box In cases of overloading, vehicle owners will be fined Rs 1,000 per additional passenger. Operating without a fitness certificate will result in a Rs 5,000 fine for the first offense and Rs 10,000 for repeat violations, Kumar added. The RTO has also made it clear that any vehicle found transporting school children without a proper school permit or a valid fitness certificate may have its permit cancelled and the vehicle seized.
