Rs.10.4-crore heroin seized from inter-state bus, Delhi man held
LUCKNOW, Feb. 15 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized heroin valued at Rs.10.4 crore from an inter-state bus near the BBD area of the state capital and arrested a Delhi resident allegedly involved in trafficking drugs to the National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday, officials said on Saturday.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the narcotics consignment may have been routed through Nepal before being transported towards Delhi-NCR. Investigators are now probing the wider network, including the source of supply and intended recipients.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, DRI officers in plainclothes intercepted the bus near BBD and directed the driver to halt along the highway for inspection. People familiar with the matter said there was initial resistance from the bus staff, but the situation was defused after officers disclosed their identity and the nature of the operation.
During a detailed search of passengers' belongings, officials recovered suspicious packets concealed inside a suitcase belonging to a passenger identified as Sandeep, a resident of Delhi. Preliminary examination confirmed the substance to be heroin.
The accused was detained on the spot for questioning before being formally arrested and produced before a magistrate. Local police also reached the scene during the operation, though the DRI team had already taken charge of the accused.
Officials said further action will be taken based on interrogation and evidence collected during the operation, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate.htc...
