Rs 6.77 crore approved for BERA machines in 54 UP hospitals
LUCKNOW, Aug. 23 -- The Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) test, used to diagnose hearing loss and certain neurological conditions, will soon be available in 54 hospitals across Uttar Pradesh. These tests will be conducted at divisional and district hospitals, following the installation of modern diagnostic machines.Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak has granted administrative and financial approval of Rs 6.77 crore for the procurement of these machines, a government spokesperson confirmed.Pathak stated that the installation of BERA machines will make it significantly easier for hearing and speech impaired individuals to access testing facilities. "Persons with disabilities will no longer need to travel from one hospital to another. The introduction of the BERA test will also streamline the process of issuing disability certificates," he added.
The BERA test is a safe, non-invasive diagnostic tool that detects hearing issues in newborns and children at an early stage, enabling timely intervention. It evaluates the hearing capability of the ear and the brainstem, playing a crucial role in the development of language and speech.
