Rs 6.4 lakh recovered from cyber fraudsters; returned to victims
VARANASI, April 12 -- A total of Rs 6.40 lakh, defrauded by cyber fraudsters, was successfully recovered and returned to the respective accounts of three victims, cyber police reported. The fraudsters had cheated one man of Rs 4.15 lakh, a second victim of Rs 75,000 and a third person of Rs 1.5 lakh.
On January 23, Mohammad Adnan, a resident of Kerala, registered a complaint on Cyber Helpline 1930. He stated that while visiting Varanasi, cyber fraudsters took Rs 4.15 lakh from him after he clicked a fraudulent link sent under the guise of booking a hotel or a car.
Assistant commissioner of police Vidush Saxena said the cyber nodal officer from Lalpur Pandeypur Police Station immediately coordinated with the bank and ensured the complainant's money was held in Punjab & Sindh Bank. Following a court order, the total amount of Rs 4.15 lakh was subsequently returned to Adnan's account.
In a separate incident on January 15, Chhotelal Kharwar, a resident of Hukulganj, Varanasi, registered a complaint on Cyber Helpline 1930.
