VARANASI, June 22 -- An amount of Rs 20 lakh was recovered from accused Munfaid, who was arrested for allegedly duping several women in Varanasi and Mathura of money in the name of getting them government jobs, claiming himself to be a police officer by creating fake social media accounts in the name of police officers and using their pictures, police said on Friday. According to officials, Munfaid created fake social media accounts using names and photographs of real police officers to gain the trust of his victims. He was arrested on June 11 following a complaint lodged by Anita Yadav of Mainpuri at the Cantt police station, Varanasi. She alleged that Munfaid had taken money from her on the pretext of getting her son a government job. After his arrest, he was sent to judicial custody. Later, police obtained a custody remand through an order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Varanasi, to trace and recover the money he had taken from the victims. During questioning, Munfaid was taken to Mathura, where Rs 20 lakh in cash was recovered from locations identified by him. Deputy commissioner of police (Crime) Sarvanan T said that the recovered cash is linked to three cases. Rs 5.5 lakh was related to Anita Yadav's complaint. Rs 9.7 lakh was traced to an FIR registered by Udita Sharma of Mathura, while Rs 4.8 lakh was linked to a complaint by Guddi Singh, also from Mathura. Munfaid has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 319(2) (cheating by personation), 318(4) (cheating), 336(3) (forgery), 338 (forgery of valuable security), 340(2) (use of forged documents), and 204 (impersonating a public servant)....
