Rs 2 cr revamp plan for Guru Ka Tal Gurudwara approved
Lucknow, Nov. 24 -- The state government has cleared a Rs 2 crore redevelopment plan for the historic Guru Ka Tal Gurudwara, transforming it into what officials describe as "one of the country's most significant Sikh heritage hubs." The announcement comes during the nationwide commemoration of the 350th martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur, giving fresh visibility to his profound connection with Agra.
Minister of tourism and culture Jaiveer Singh said the project is both an emotional commitment and a cultural responsibility.
"Preserving Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's legacy is our duty and honour. His sacrifice remains a universal message of truth, courage and freedom," he noted, adding that Uttar Pradesh aims to elevate the gurudwara to the stature it deserves on India's spiritual map.
Agra welcomed 1.78 crore visitors in 2024, followed by 77,09,078 visitors in just the first half of 2025.
Principal Secretary Tourism Amrit Abhijat said, "Our mission is to ensure that heritage sites representing all faiths, be it the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri or Guru Ka Tal, stand in equal dignity. This gurudwara embodies the spirit of sarv dharm sambhav."...
