Udaipur, Aug. 24 -- A political slugfest erupted in Rajasthan on Saturday after allegations were raised by representatives from Badgaon panchayat in Udaipur district, claiming that around 700 voters have been registered under the same address. The district administration, however, rejected the allegations based on a preliminary investigation, adding that a detailed probe is underway. Badgaon panchayat samiti member Bhuvnesh Vyas, in a complaint, had claimed that 700 voters were registered under a single house in Bandinal area of Gogunda assembly constituency. "In Bandinal area, Part No. 267, House No. 111, nearly 700 voters are listed, whereas in reality, no such large number of people reside there," the complaint said. "Similarly, around 300 names have been added to House No. 82." Echoing similar concerns, panchayat administrator Sanjay Sharma said the constituency's voter list features many "bogus voters". "From Part No. 265 to 272, several fake names have been registered of individuals who have no connection with the area," Sharma alleged. Following a preliminary investigation, Udaipur district collector Namit Mehta refuted the allegations, saying the 700 electors were allotted "notional numbers" for their address as they lacked a valid one. "The preliminary investigation has revealed most of these people belong to economically weaker sections, and have been living by constructing temporary or permanent houses on government land of the Udaipur Development Authority. Since they do not have any valid address, they were allotted notional numbers and registered in the voter list," Mehta said. Following the charges, Rajasthan Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi called for a probe. "In many places, such fake voters have been found. The BJP and ECI committed large-scale fraud during the Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan," he said. BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said that the poll body will probe the matter. "Necessary action is being taken. Those people do not have any proper address. The BJP doesn't allow such theft. It is the Congress who are used to such vote chori," he said....
