Robbers thrash woman, loot cash and jewellery
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 16 -- Robbers faked a woman's voice to get entry into a roadside house, held a woman captive at gunpoint and thrashed her, and fled with jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh besides Rs 1.5 lakh in cash in Pratapgarh on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
As per reports, on Kunda Road near Jethwara police station, robbery took place at the house of one Bachchan Gupta after miscreants got the door opened faking a female voice.
Gupta's wife was beaten up and made to forcibly part with her jewellery she was wearing.
Gupta lived with his family on Derwa Road and sold eatables in a cart at Kanupur crossing in the area. On the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at around 3.30am, his wife Kiran heard the door of the house being knocked from outside besides a woman's voice calling out her husband's name. When Kiran opened the door thinking that it could be her mother-in-law who was sleeping outside, five masked miscreants were standing at the gate with three entering the house forcibly pointing a gun at Kiran's head.
After opening the cupboard and taking Rs 1.5 lakh cash and jewellery worth about Rs 2 lakh, they thrashed Kiran and made her take off the jewellery she was wearing. While leaving, the miscreants started dragging her husband's bike outside. Just then, the kids sleeping in the room came out and started shouting. The miscreants left the bike and ran away. On hearing the noise, other people living in the adjacent houses reached the spot of the incident.
On receiving information about the robbery near the Jethwara police station, police from the field unit also reached there with a special team.
On Monday, police registered an FIR of theft against the incident....
