Road accident: Manhunt launched after death of BJYM leader
Dehradun, Oct. 13 -- A Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader was killed and another man was injured after a speeding car hit pedestrians near St. Jude Chowk in Patel Nagar area in Dehradun on Saturday evening. The deceased has been identified as Jitendra Bisht, a resident of Keshav Vihar, Chandrabani. and injured as Hrithik Rajput, also from Chandrabani, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Velmed Hospital.
Jitendra Singh Bisht was elected student union president of DAV College in Dehradun from ABVP in 2018. He was currently serving as the BJYM Dehradun Mahanagar general secretary.
According to police, the incident occurred around 7.45 pm when a white Nissan Micra coming from St. Jude Chowk towards Transport Nagar lost control and rammed into people standing by the roadside. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals by local residents before police arrived.
The police later found the car, bearing visible damage, parked about 100 metres from the spot.
The driver had fled, leaving the vehicle behind, the police said.
Senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said, "Our initial probe has revealed that the car belonged to Muzammil, a resident of Buddhi. The vehicle had been under repair at a workshop owned by Wasim near Sand Juice Chowk. A worker named Abbu had taken the car out for a test drive after repairs and, while returning, hit several people about 40 metres from the workshop. Panicking after the crash, he abandoned the car and fled the scene."
"We have seized the vehicle and are questioning workshop owner Wasim. A search is underway for the absconding driver," he said....
