Rlys accelerates capacity expansion under 2030 vision
Lucknow, Dec. 29 -- With passenger traffic rising steadily, the Indian Railways has intensified capacity enhancement works in Lucknow as part of its ambitious plan to double originating train capacity in major cities by 2030. "The redevelopment projects are being executed under the North Eastern Railway's Lucknow Division and aim to significantly improve both passenger amenities and operational efficiency," stated a Lucknow police press note.
"Key milestone in Lucknow is the completion of the redevelopment of Gomti Nagar railway station, built at Rs.377.47 crore. Designed to cater to commuter needs for the next 50 years, the station now boasts world-class infrastructure based on green building concepts. It features separate north and south terminal buildings, a 2,380 sq m air-conditioned concourse, dedicated arrival and departure zones, and nine escalators and nine lifts for smooth passenger movement.
Parallel redevelopment is underway under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at several stations. Daliganj Junction is being upgraded at a cost of Rs.28.45 crore, with a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge equipped with lifts and escalators scheduled for completion by March 2026. Works at City station costing Rs.8.28 crore are mostly complete, while Badshahnagar station is being revamped at Rs.31.13 crore....
