Rly clears encroachments on its land, to hand it over to Army
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 11 -- The Railways demolished illegal structures near Jhunsi station to free up land which will be handed over to the Army in exchange for the parade ground area taken for a new railway line.
Nearly a dozen-and-a-half unauthorised constructions were removed using bulldozers. Before the action, the Railways had issued notices to the encroachers, giving them an ultimatum to vacate the land by December 8. When occupants failed to comply, the North Eastern Railway (NER), with support from the RPF and RVNL, carried out the demolition drive on Tuesday afternoon, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
This operation is part of the land-swap arrangement between the Railways and the Army to facilitate the new railway line project.
After the construction of a new bridge over the Ganga, the NER acquired defence land in the Parade Ground for laying a new railway line. In exchange for the land, the NER promised to provide land of equal value in Jhunsi....
