LUCKNOW, Nov. 4 -- Former champions Uttar Pradesh continued to struggle on their home turf even on the second day of their four-day Elite Group D encounter of the Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy as they conceded 120-run first innings lead to Railways, at the Saheed Vijay Singh Pathak Sports Complex Ground in Greater Noida on Monday. Chasing Railways' first innings total of 302, Uttar Pradesh could make 182 in 61 overs in their first essay. Then Railways scored 60/0 at the end of second day's play to take their overall lead to 180 runs in the second innings. Anchit Yadav (26) and Aayush Kumar (28) were at the crease at the close of stumps. It was a tough day for Sameer Rizvi-led side on the ground as Railways after resuming at the overnight score of 280/6, went on adding 22 more runs to take their score beyond 300 runs. And thereafter, Uttar Pradesh batters even after having a good start with openers Mohd Aashiyan and Adarsh Singh added 39 runs for the first wicket in 16 overs, struggled. Once Aashiyan (11, 52b, 2x4) departed after being caught and bowled by SK Jani Basha, Uttar Pradesh started losing wickets on regular intervals. Aadarsh Singh was caught by Aayush Kumar off Basha after scoring 62-ball 34 with the help of three boundaries and a six, Swastik Chikara (18, 23b, 2x4, 1x6) and Rituraj Sharma (13, 47b, 2x4) too departed in quick succession. For the first time this season, skipper Rizvi showed some of his class with his maiden half-century of the season, but it didn't make any difference and Mohd Amaan (0), Shivansh Yadav (2), Shubham Mishra (0), Vijay Kumar (12) and Abdul Rehman (4) failed with willow. A 52-run fourth wicket partnership between Rizvi and Rituraj remained the best so far for Uttar Pradesh in the match. Rizvi was caught by Aayush Kumar off Toufik Uddin after scoring 69 in 65 balls with the help of five boundaries and equal number of sixes, but his departure in the 47th over almost brought an end to UP's first innings. Kartik Yadav remained unbeaten on 13 with a boundary. In the second innings, both Yadav and Kumar negotiated the 15 overs quota at ease, stitching together unbeaten 60 runs for Railways. In his 61-ball innings, Yadav struck three hits to the fence and a six, whereas Kumar struck one four and three sixes in his 29-ball knock. Uttar Pradesh, who are currently at the second spot in the group, still have a chance to stage a comeback in the game, but that their bowlers need to work hard when the penultimate day's game begins on Tuesday. Not a single ball could be bowled even on the penultimate day of the four-day Elite Group A Ranji Trophy match between former champions Uttar Pradesh and hosts Baroda due to rain in Vadodara on Monday. There was no play even on the first two days due to the rain. If no match is possible even on the final day of the match on Tuesday, both the teams will be sharing one point each. Currently Baroda with seven points are above Uttar Pradesh, who have six points....
