LUCKNOW, Aug. 22 -- Asia Cup-bound Team India T20 specialist Rinku Singh on Thursday smacked an unbeaten century, his first in the third edition of the UPTwenty20 League and led defending champions Meerut Mavericks notch up a thrilling six-wicket win over Gorakhpur Lions here. Left-hander Rinku showed that why he is one of the best finishers in the shortest format of the game, hitting an unbeaten 48-ball 108 with the help of seven boundaries and eight sixes at a strike rate of 225.00 as Meerut Mavericks chased down 168 runs target with seven balls to spare. It was almost an impossible task for the MM after tottering at 38/4 in eight overs, but thereafter Rinku along with Sahab Yuvraj Singh, who scored run-a-ball 22 with the help of just one boundary, stitched together an unbeaten 130 runs for the fifth wicket. Earlier, with the help of 32-ball 38 (4x6) by Dhruv Jurel, Giorakhpur Lions posted 167/9 while batting first after winning the toss. For MM, Vishal Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar shared six wickets between them, whereas Zeeshan ansari bagged 2/29. In another game of the day, Kashi Rudras scored a comprehensive 88-run win over Noida Kings to top the table with six points on Thursday. Kashi Rudras had come into this eighth match of the season on the back of successive wins and they showed again why they have been so difficult to beat. Overcoming a middle overs slump with the bat and a sterling start in the Powerplay by Noida Kings, the Rudras grabbed a facile victory and firmed up their spot at the top of the points table. Defending a score of 173 in what looked like batting-friendly conditions, the Kashi spin duo of Shiva Singh and Kartik Yadav triggered a stunning Noida collapse to grab the victory. The Kings fell away to 85 all out after being 57 for one in the fifth over at one. Noida super Kings vs Kanpur superstars at 3.00 p.m.; Lucknow Falcons vs Gorakhpur Lions at 7.30 p.m....
