LUCKNOW, Sept. 10 -- A 68-year-old retired assistant engineer of the public works department (PWD) was shot dead inside his residence in Madiaon on Tuesday. Police said the assailant was the husband of the family's domestic help. The deceased was identified as Arun Kumar Mishra, who lived alone . His son Anuj Mishra is settled in the US, while his wife Anju Mishra, a retired principal, resides separately. Mishra had been living alone for nearly 15 years, his nephew Nitin Mishra said. "The accused fled immediately after the incident. An FIR has been registered based on the family's complaint, and multiple teams are conducting raids to arrest him," ADCP J K Dubey said. Police identified the shooter as Manoj Pandey, 40, a guard by profession and husband of househelp Rama Devi. Pandey, a resident of Bhainsamau Crossing under Bakshi Ka Talab police station, allegedly opened fire with his licensed double-barreled gun. The bullet struck Mishra in the chest, killing him on the spot. Rama Devi, who had been working at the house for the past one-and-a-half years, was taken into custody for questioning. Police said she had been staying at Mishra's residence for the past three days. "In custody, she stated that she had a dispute with her husband over house construction. Due to this, he came to Mishra's house to fight. He fired at her, but the bullet missed and hit Mishra instead," police said.HTC...
